David Hyatt – Illinois Conservation Police
(Practical Interrogation Course)
The techniques learned in the interview/interrogation training taught by Jeff Baile are essential tools every police officer should have in their tool box. You will learn to walk into interviews and interrogations with more confidence and be able to get confessions you did not think were possible. After firearm training this should be the next step in police training. I recently had the opportunity to interview/interrogate a subject suspected of arson. I obtained a full confession and the subject shook my hand afterwards. By using the rewind technique, the suspect told me details about the fires only he would know, eliminating other suspects. See attached news article.
Nikki Potter – Alaska Wildlife Trooper
This was one of the best courses that I have taken. All the information learned is very useful and can be applied to all situations. Thanks for coming and teaching the course.
Kymberly Miller – Alaska State Parks Law Enforcement
Very good course. Valuable insights and good bullet points for L.E. officers. Good visual aides, interviewer tapes top notch. Excellent presentation skills. Excellent teaching style. Thank you for coming to Alaska. We all really appreciated your sincerity.
Joe Wittkop – Alaska Wildlife Trooper
The training was excellent. Jeff you did a fantastic job teaching. The information was fascination and will make me a better warden.
Matt Bruner – Iowa Conservation Officer
As it was last time I attended, this class was awesome. I’ll walk out of here as a well prepared confident officer. Thanks for putting in new information from last time. I look forward to attending your advanced class soon.
Dan Henderson – Iowa Conservation Officer
This was one of the courses I have been waiting for and was truly satisfied with the outcome. I understand being able to communicate with the public will come with years of experience, but have now taken a small portion of your course, I deeply feel that I will be able to use my tool belt of opportunities in being able to solve cases that I wouldn’t of been comfortable with before. Thanks again for your time and consideration towards us. I look forward to seeing you in the years to come.
Art Jackson – Maryland Natural Resources Police
This is the most fascination and interesting training I’ve attended in a while! You have a complete mastery of this subject matter. For me it’s overwhelming. It may take sometime to incorporate the techniques into my repertoire. I appreciate the scholarly approach you’ve taken in developing this curriculum (i.e. citing published reports, quoting references, etc.). It gives the student confidence that the matter presented is authentic and not a collection of war stories (although, the war stories are great!). Our agency really got quality instruction over the last 3 days.
Russ Boback – Maryland Natural Resources Police
Great Class! Jeff was real life and practical. I like his ability to share both his failures and successes with the program as he developed it during his career. Allowed questions and always gave honest responses. I can see applications to my job setting and becoming a better officer with this training. It was very worthwhile. I’m glad I was here. It has caused me to re-think but not be afraid to change the way I do business.
Tim Grenoble – Training Director Pennsylvania Fish & Game Commission
Jeff: when you were here for the cadet class I heard many positive comments but really didn’t understand what they meant…I do now. Having sat threw the last three days makes me wish I was back in the field to put it to work. I’m confident that hearing you will make me as much more effective investigator and I look forward to my next interview. The program is well structured. I can’t recall any training on this subject that I’ve taken in my career that served the need as much as this.
Brandon Fehrenbacher – Illinois Conservation Police
(Practical Interrogation Course)
To Lt. Bumgarner – Training Supervisor
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to attend Jeff Baile’s Advanced Interrogation Class. It was some of the best training I have received while employed as a Conservation Police Officer. The class material was interesting and will be extremely useful in obtaining confessions and solving more complex cases for our agency. I am grateful to get invited to the class, and was impressed with the training I received. I typically find it difficult to sit in a classroom setting and concentrate for long periods of time. I never had this problem during Jeff’s class. I could not get enough of the subject matter. I am convinced the training he taught is crucial to becoming a better Conservation Police Officer, and I plan on continuing to practice and improve on all the skills I learned during Jeff’s class. This is the training we need. Jeff’s class gave me the confidence to know I can beat the hard to crack violator by using the techniques he taught us in the class. I hope in the future we can offer all of our officers this course. It is obvious that a lot of thought, time, effort, and passion for the subject matter went into preparing this class. Jeff’s enthusiasm for interrogation techniques spread throughout the classroom the first hour of day one. The classroom discussions and participation were evidence of that. He is an excellent teacher and continues to represent the Illinois Conservation Police to the upmost standards!
Rick Finnegan – WCO Cadet Ross Leffler School of Conservation Harrisburg, PA
Mr. Baile, I just wanted to say thank you for coming to teach us interviewing / interrogation skills and for training us in lie detection. I really enjoyed the course and I got a lot out of it. I am not alone, and I wanted you to know that. You seem like a great guy and you are an outstanding teacher – I hear many times “I used that Jeff Baile stuff on him” or “that Jeff Baile stuff really works”. Well, thanks again – you taught me something that I’ll use for the rest of my life. Many of the cadets feel the same way.
Vince Crawford – Missouri Conservation Agent
Jeff: I thought you might like to read the little prop I got out there for you in last month’s Northwest Region Monthly Narrative:
Prior to turkey season, Marc Bagley and Vince Crawford had a rather lengthy discussion with a convicted felon that thought he was in jail for just a couple days for a first degree trespassing charge. A search warrant was served on his house while he was in jail and multiple firearms and fresh wildlife violations were discovered. Marc and Vince conducted the interview, and at last count, revealed 25 wildlife violations between 4 people, and all of this without letting the man know the warrant had been served. Vince comments, “We’ve got to thank Forensic Interviewer Jeff Baile for his interview techniques we used to gain the information we needed.
Jeff: you and your assistance were mentioned in my service review for this year!
You have used the skills gained from attending an optional interview techniques seminar to further your effectiveness in interrogations. Several quality cases were the direct result of your willingness to seek additional training that improves your abilities as a Conservation Agent.
Daniel Quevillon – Environmental Officer Yukon Territories
I would sincerely like to thank you for providing me with this opportunity to grow as a person & officer. There are so many First Nation kids that would love to become someone like yourself & with your teachings, I can assure you, you will change in a positive way the lives of many. You have already changed mine. They say a smile can change a person’s life, well I also believe a hand wave does the same thing.
Scott Andrew – Saskatchewan Game Warden
I enjoyed it so much that I could have done two weeks. Great course, could have used it years ago at the start of my career. Definitely changed the way I look at people and am always analyzing them now.James Fraser – Saskatchewan Game Warden
I could of done this course for two weeks. This was the best course I have every taken!!
Vans E. Hulbert – Alberta Game Warden
Very well done. It has changed the way I look at people in general and I am not as quick to assume everyone is doing something illegal. My confidence increased drastically with regards to interviews and interrogations. I would like the course to be longer. Very interesting material and techniques. Never a dull moment!
Rob Riggin – Kansas Game Warden
Very good/useful information. Should be taught at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center. The best raining I have received in many years.
Kansas Game Warden
Good program enjoyed the presentation and the way the information was presented. It is nice to see a fellow game warden standing in front of us that understands the different situations we come across. Three days of training went by very fast. I know that I could have used this information numbers times in the past and look forward to using these techniques in the future.
Derek Farwell – Missouri Conservation Agent
This is great course. I wish this information had been available 15 years ago. To think of what I could have been practicing and learned and all the cases I may have missed is sad. The art of indirect questioning is a great tool that we should all learn and be able to use. Instruction from a wildlife officer with this type of training is rare but extremely helpful!
Jeff Berti – Missouri Conservation Agent
This training should have been or should be mandatory for all M.D.C. training classes. I wish I had this available during my training 14 yrs. ago. You never lost my attention during the entire three days. I definitely learned new techniques to use to interview and interrogate suspects.
Greg Bacon – Missouri Park Rangers
Really enjoyed the course! Excellent instructor. I wish I would have had this course when I first started in law enforcement. Any type of law enforcement officer would benefit from this type of training.
Sam Schelhaas – South Dakota Conservation Officer
(Practical Interrogation Course)
Good class! I really liked this class. This is on of the best training classes that I have every had. It relates directly to my job. I could go home and use it today. It is fun for me to see a man as passionate as you teach us what you learned. I thin this will make me a better CO!
Jeremy Roe – South Dakota Conservation Officer
I have been a C.O. for just over 1 year, after looking back on my 1st fall I believe if I would have had this training before my 1st fall I believe I would of made a lot more cases. Thank you for the excellent training and look forward to using it in the field in the future. Thanks Again.
Jeff Martin – South Dakota Conservation Officer
Very good course with lots of great info. I have been with the dept. for one year and thought the course of training had watched several of our offices use pieces of your technique. This three-day session really helped me fill in the gaps and learn the “how and way” to these techniques.
R. Merritt, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service – Refuge LE
Great learning topic. We don’t get very much of this at Basic and it was great to get a refresher plus new knowledge. Like the use of photos on the presentation. Would like the course to go longer.
Vic Coffman, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Refuge – Refuge LE
Excellent, good content, excellent speaking and interaction, learned a lot, very interesting, some of the first training I have had dealing with conservation tactics & techniques – Very Good!
Richard Bare, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service – Refuge LE
This was great. When I get back I plan on looking at courses offered to further my knowledge. It is simple material that I can apply instantly to my contacts. However, it will take a lot of practice over & over that I need to keep doing. It’s comparable to learning a new language that I’ve always known and used but didn’t’ know what to look for or ask. Actual game warden stories help to relate it to all of us.
U.S. Fish & Wildlife Refuge Officer – February, 2010 class in Roswell, NM
Very interesting program. A real eye opener. This information is very beneficial and another tool to put in the LE tool box. Presenter has a nice delivery. I also appreciated the fact that he moved around during the presentation. Also like how he interacted with the class.
James Stone – Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission
This was great training. I have been to others but I got more out of this one. This training is going to help me with my job. You made the training interesting and fun and relative to my career. I would be interested in more training to improve my skills. Thank you for the opportunity to listen and learn.
Kirby Meister – Yukon Conservation Officer
Excellent training. This is the 3rd such course I’ve taken, and I would say the best. I think that is because it is easier for me, a CO, to relate to an instructor who is also a CO, as opposed to a regular police officer. Also, Jeff is an excellent presenter – very knowledgeable, and comfortable.
G.D. Barwick, Virginia Game Warden
All wardens should take this course, also offer all other courses taught by Mr. Baile.
Byron Cammack – Louisiana Conservation Agent
This was a refreshing class. I really look forward to improving this area of my communication skills. I have lots of things going through my mind during conversations now. Your professionalism was outstanding and your communication of your subject matter showed how much you believe in it and your confidence in us to ingest, digest, and use the techniques.
Mark Howe – Montana Game Warden
Been to other interview classes; this one was the best. Theory combined w / actual application was very helpful. Directly related to work conducted by game wardens.
Rick Schmauch – Montana Game Warden
Great use of videos, practice sessions. Showing the wrong way, as well as the right ways to proceed was very beneficial. Really easy to follow, something a new officer can walk out the door & use. Easy to follow, comprehend as it is designed in line with our work efforts – the game wardens answer to our most important aspect of the job.
